Problem restoring file from archive

duplicity-talk mailing list
I'm using Duplicity since some time and it's generally providing to be a
reliable and useful tool, though I've recently encountered a problem where
I can not -- in any way I can imagine -- restore a file from an archive.

The file was created on or around the 27th of November, and was included
in a full backup which ran the following night. The file was removed
(accidentally) the day after, and shows as deleted in the next incremental:

Local and Remote metadata are synchronized, no sync needed.
Last full backup date: Tue Nov 28 00:00:01 2017
  -------------------------
  File: home/greta/uppdatera/annual_report/underlag_ar.Rmd
  Total number of backup: 2
Type of backup set:                            Time:  Type of file change:
                  Full         Tue Nov 28 00:00:01 2017                   New
           Incremental         Thu Nov 30 00:00:01 2017               Deleted
  -------------------------

However, regardless of what I set as restore-time, I'm met with the message
that:

home/greta/uppdatera/annual_report/underlag_ar.Rmd not found in archive - no files restored.

Here's what I've tried:

  # duplicity -v9 -t "2017-11-28T00:00:01+00:00" --no-encryption restore --file-to-restore home/greta/uppdatera/annual_report/underlag_ar.Rmd file:///home/jonas/backup/ r/

This makes Duplicity look in the correct backup set, but aborts after scanning
through the first volume when it doesn't find it. Various restore-time I've
tried:

2017-11-28T00:00:00+00:00 -> makes duplicity look in a previous backup set
where the file clearly does not exist.
2017-11-30T00:00:00+00:00 -> looks in the right backup set, but again claims
it doesn't exist, after aborting on the first volume.
2017-11-30T00:00:01+00:00 -> makes it look ahead into the incremental backup
and again claims it doesn't exist.

Happy to take any suggestions :-)

Re: Problem restoring file from archive

duplicity-talk mailing list
Hi Jonas,

OK, first some questions...

1) What OS and what version?
2) What version of duplicity?
3) If you run the command "$ env", what LANG is set?

...Thanks,
...Ken

Re: Problem restoring file from archive

Hi Ken,

good call and apologies for not including this from the beginning. I
should know better :-)

1)

jonas@demeter:~$ lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS
Release: 16.04
Codename: xenial

2)

jonas@demeter:~$ duplicity --version
duplicity 0.7.06

3)

jonas@demeter:~$ env|grep LANG
LANG=en_US.UTF-8

Best,
Jonas

Re: Problem restoring file from archive

duplicity-talk mailing list
That's an older version.  Please upgrade to the current version, 0.7.15.  This will assure that any bugs fixed since your release are available and may fix your issue.

There are three options:
NOTE: UNinstall duplicity first if it was installed via the distribution repository.  For Ubuntu, that would be "sudo apt-get purge duplicity".

Hi Ken,

good call and apologies for not including this from the beginning. I
should know better :-)

1)

jonas@demeter:~$ lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:    Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS
Release:        16.04
Codename:       xenial

2)

jonas@demeter:~$ duplicity --version
duplicity 0.7.06

3)

jonas@demeter:~$ env|grep LANG
LANG=en_US.UTF-8

Best,
Jonas
