Weirdness in Zonecheck 3.0.2

Stan Barber
Just started to use Zonecheck 3.0.2 with dnsruby 1.47 on FreeBSD 7.3 and am getting some interesting errors.

nameserver IP reverse matching nameserver name
w: [TEST nameserver IP reverse matching nameserver name]: undefined method `empty?' for nil:NilClass

The reverse is defined for this server and it respond just fine to dig.

nameserver IP reverse
w: [TEST nameserver IP reverse]: killed thread

Why would I get a "killed thread"?

root-servers list present
f: [TEST root-servers list present]: answer refused from server: (NS )

DNS-OARC suggests in https://www.dns-oarc.net/oarc/articles/upward-referrals-considered-harmful that REFUSED is a reasonable response.

NS can be resolved
f: [TEST NS can be resolved]: undefined method `empty?' for nil:NilClass

Again the "undefined method" error. Is this a bug in zonecheck or dnsruby or what?

The algorithm followed by Zonecheck is "if the server claims to be
recursive, it should be recursive". If it is not, this test is not
performed. In most cases, the proper solution is to disable
recursion. Otherwise, if it is not possible, yes, indeed, the recent
developments following the ISPRIME attack creates a problem.
