sks 1.1.0 on Debian doesn't start via /etc/init.d

Nico De Ranter

Hi

I installed sks on a Debian (testing) box. I can start sks by doing 'sks
db', however when I try to start it via the supplied /etc/init.d/sks it
stops immediately.

In the db.log file I see:

2008-07-15 13:34:56 Opening log
2008-07-15 13:34:56 sks_db, SKS version 1.1.0

While if I start it from the command line I get:

2008-07-15 13:35:34 Database opened
2008-07-15 13:35:34 Applied filters: yminsky.dedup, yminsky.merge

Any idea why sks wouldn't want to start from init.d?

Thanks in advance,

Nico

Re: sks 1.1.0 on Debian doesn't start via /etc/init.d

Nico De Ranter-2

Found it.

The default init.d/sks script starts sks as non-root user (not sure
whether this is Debian specific or not). However if you enable port 80
in the sksconf file sks dies as it isn't able to open that port as
non-root.  Would be nice if it logged an error message saying that's the
problem. Actually it would be nice if it logged any problem at all as
the process just died without any message saying something was wrong.
